Someone who’ll watch over me

John Leslie Theatre
Thursday 15 November, 8.00pm
Tickets $25, $20

Gippsland’s own Break a Leg Theatre Company tackle this extraordinary and compelling play. The story of three men held captive in a cell in Beirut, this piece was inspired by the true account of former Beirut prisoner Brian Keenan, who was abducted kept in a cell and denied all contact with the outside world. After four and a half years he was finally released. Frank McGuinness was moved by his conversations with Keenan to write this play which is full of compassion, tragedy and humour. It centres on three characters as they struggle to maintain their sanity whilst forming close friendships under the shocking strain of captivity. But in this desperate situation, there’s also rich humour, along with immense dignity, courage and compassion. Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me is both profoundly moving and sharply funny. In almost every sense, it takes you right to the edge of what human beings can endure.

Presented by the Water Water Arts Festival in association
with Break a Leg Theatre Company.
